New Song – “From Heaven to Earth”

I love writing, and that includes song-writing. There’s just something about the combination of melody and lyrics. Music can inspire dreams because it puts wings on words.
I don’t write as many songs as I used to, but it still happens. And this latest one seems fitting for the time of year. It’s called “From Heaven to Earth” and was recorded live on December 4th, 2016 at the church I pastor, Westminster in Barrie.

The recording isn’t fancy (it was recorded directly through the sound board), and you’ll have to excuse the odd sniffle (I’m getting over a cold). I played it during the Sunday service and had the words to the chorus up on the screen; so when you hear some other voices from time to time that’s the congregation singing along!

One of the awesome things that happened at the same time was that while I was playing the ushers were taking up a special financial collection to help a family in our community who had approached the church and needed some real and urgent help. In the three minutes it took to sing this song, the congregation gave $2900 to help this family!!!

A special thanks goes to our music director, Jenn Harris, who thought it would be a good Sunday for me to sing this song, and to our sound tech for the day, Herman Van Rossum, who set up the mikes and guitar chords.

So here it is. The words are included in the video and also listed below. Enjoy!

When every clear sky starts turning to grey,
and darkness keeps closing in.
When you take two steps up, just to stumble back three,
it’s easy, it’s easy to quit.

Chorus:
It seems a long way from heaven to earth,
like the road from the head to the heart.
It seems a long way from heaven to earth,
but it’s a dream that can come true in you.

When the pain seems to get worse every day,
and the answers don’t yield their escape.
When a friend turns away, when a chance falls through,
when the bad news is all about you.

Chorus:
It seems a long way from heaven to earth,
like the road from the head to the heart.
It seems a long way from heaven to earth,
but it’s a dream that can come true in you.

And some prayers are built one day at a time.
And some lives are changed one pain at a time.
And some dreams come true one hope at a time.

Chorus:
It seems a long way from heaven to earth,
like the road from the head to the heart.
It seems a long way from heaven to earth,
but it’s a dream that can come true in you.
But it’s a dream that can come true in you.
