This Sunday’s message was called “Wisdom is more than stuff you know,” and we are at Part 6 in our teaching series called Down-to-Earth. It’s a line by line look at the Book of James in the Bible. Today’s message was on James 3:13-18. You can find sermon notes for this message here.

What does James have to say about wisdom? And how can we apply that to our lives so that we are wise? A lot of people know the value of things. But not a lot of people know the actual value of things. Knowing that difference, and living that difference, makes all the difference.

Pastor Ruttan talked about how some people think wisdom is from degrees hanging on their wall, or perhaps because they can win arguments. Or even because they have a lot of people listening to them – think social medial. James tells us that these are not the things of wisdom, instead in v. 17 says “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

Wisdom is not just stuff you know, but who you are known to be.
