Good Friday Walk

Good Friday Walk

Good Friday is a holiday in Canada.

We remember and give thanks for what Jesus has done for us on the cross. The prophecy about Jesus in Isaiah 53:5 says: “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

Here at Westminster we’re always looking for ways to go deeper with our faith, and simple-but-meaningful activities that will help us appreciate these deep biblical truths on a daily basis.

So on Good Friday, if you are able, we suggest you go for a 1km walk. This is approximately the distance Jesus travelled to the location where he was crucified. The exact route, of course, is unknown, and was most likely less than 1 km. But an approximate route has been remembered for years and is called the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem. It is a phrase that means the “way of suffering.”

Feel free to walk more, or even less. The important thing is to walk, to remember, and to give thanks for what Jesus did for you and me.

Mandy Hillyard will join Pastor Ruttan during the Good Friday live-streamed service to explain more fully.
