Invite a Friend or Neighbour to Celebrate Jesus’ Birth – December’s Orange Idea
by Westminster
Westminster’s “Orange Idea” is a monthly, family-friendly, 1-page resource to help you live out your faith at home. But what is “Orange,” you might ask?
As Julie and Matthew explained, it’s not just a colour—it’s a way of thinking: Yellow represents the light of Jesus shared by the church. Red represents the blood and bond of the family. So when you put Yellow and Red together you get…
Orange!
So an “Orange idea” is when the church helps people live out their faith in their families and homes. After all, the home is the primary place where faith is formed.
So this monthly resource will help people of different ages learn about and live out their Christian faith in tangible, practical ways.
So here’s the Orange Idea for December 2017: Invite a Friend or Neighbour to Celebrate Jesus’ Birth.
In Matthew 2:2 we read the wise men’s words: “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Here’s where we’re going with this one:
Christmas is about God coming to us personally in Jesus Christ. For Christians, it’s important that we remember and give thanks for this very meaningful event, and think about how we can share this good news of God’s love, truth and beauty with others. In Matthew 2:2 we’re reminded that the wise men came to worship this newborn King—so our celebrations of Jesus’ birth also include worshiping together.
So…
This month we encourage you and/or your family to invite a friend or neighbour to join you at one of our special church services.
Here are a few helpful Tips:
1. Talk with your family about who you think you could invite to a special church service.
2. Pick up an extra “What’s happening at Westminster this Christmas Season” red flyer from the Welcome Desk and present it to a friend or neighbour as a part of your invitation.
3. Know the key information like the church address (170 Steel Street), how long services are, if there is children’s programming, and what our website is (WestminsterPC.ca).
4. You could even bake some cookies or create a craft to share the holiday with a friend or neighbour and as a part of your invitation to the Pageant (December 10), or the Cantata (December 17) or one of our two Christmas Eve services (5:30 or 7pm). 5. If you want to invite someone who isn’t nearby, share with them information through social media or our website (WestminsterPC.ca).
6. If the friend or neighbour you’re inviting isn’t open to going to a church service you could even have them for a meal and include a birthday cake for Jesus as the dessert!
In December, invite a friend or neighbour to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
The orange philosophy originates with Reggie Joiner in his helpful book Think Orange.
