Maundy Thursday occurs on the Thursday evening of Holy Week.
The word "maundy" refers to the Latin wording of John 13:34, that we are to observe the "new commandment" (mandatum novum) which Jesus taught us: to love one another as he has loved us.
In this simple, beautiful service we gather to sing, pray and read Scripture. As you enter you will be given a candle. The last few songs are sung in the dark (much like on Christmas Eve at the candlelit service).
We celebrate the Sacrament of Communion.
There is no nursery or Sunday school for this service.
We leave the sanctuary at the end of the service in silence, awaiting Good Friday...
