Sunday Service – February 18

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie

On February 18th we’ll gather at 10:01am to worship the living and true God. We will sing, pray, learn and encourage one another. That's significant. The nursery and Sunday School will both be open. During the message, our pastor will continue with a teaching series called “Christian Atheism: Saying you believe in a life-changing God but living like it doesn’t make a difference.” It’s meant to help clarify some basic-yet-powerful points which will help make your faith more robust (and true to the one we claim to follow). To see a short YouTube video which explains what it’s all about go here. Part 3 will explore what it means when we say we believe in a life-changing God... but don't ever talk to or about him. Then we'll explore Scripture for some practical advice about what to do about it. After the service, you can continue to access the paper copy registration forms for the March Break Camp. Plus, the youth group will have a table set up where you can sponsor them in their Coldest Night walk -- a project to raise awareness and fund for Youth Haven. Join in. Let’s gather to praise God, to pray, to sing, to learn, and to encourage one another in faith! You’ll be glad you did.

Sunday Service – February 25

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie

On February 25th we’ll gather at 10:01am to worship the living and true God. We will sing, pray, learn and encourage one another. That’s really significant. The nursery and Sunday School will both be open. And during the message, our pastor will continue with a teaching series called “Christian Atheism: Saying you believe in a life-changing God but living like it doesn’t make a difference.” It’s meant to help clarify some basic-yet-powerful points which will help make your faith more robust (and true to the one we claim to follow). To see a short YouTube video which explains what it’s all about go here. Part 4 will explore what it means when we say we believe in a life-changing God… but think life is all about us. In our modern world, the quiet creed you often hear is that life is all about your own personal health and happiness. But think this way can actually bring harm and distraction to your life. Plus, it's now what Scripture teaches. What if life wasn't all about your own personal health and happiness, and what if the alternative was so much better? After the service, you can continue to access the paper copy registration forms for the March Break Camp. Join in. Let’s gather to praise God, to pray, to sing, to learn, and to encourage one another in faith! You’ll be glad you did.

Easter Sunday!

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie

Easter Sunday is when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ! At 10:01am we’ll gather together to joyfully sing, pray and marvel at God’s power and goodness. The service itself is an hour long. No matter who you are, you'll feel welcome and uplifted. There will be nursery and Sunday School. The Sunday School children start the service with the wider group, and then leave for Sunday School classes (divided by age) about 20 minutes into the service. (And after the service there may be a few surprises too! -- including a few live rabbits to meet, and a chocolaty treat for the kids.) During the service we’ll be uplifted by special music, and will be encouraged to think about how the resurrection transforms our perspective on life: It can turn us into people of tangible hope in the midst of difficult lives and a troubled world. In other words, the resurrection isn't just about life after death; it's about life before life after death! It's about life beyond a pulse. Plus, since Easter is extra special, and since we like to do things that help us remember that fact, after the service we've invited Brieh from Georgia Brieh Photography to have a set up and take pictures of anyone who would like a (free) photo on Easter morning! Easter is the main event of the Christian faith. Join in. It will be a morning of hope and celebration. You’ll be glad you did. Click here to learn about our Good Friday 10am service.

Sunday Service – April 8

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie

On April 8th at 10:01am we’ll gather together to joyfully sing, pray and marvel at God’s power and goodness. The service itself is about an hour long. No matter who you are, you’ll feel welcome and uplifted. There will be nursery and Sunday School. The Sunday School children start the service with the wider group, and then leave for Sunday School classes (divided by age) about 20 minutes into the service. During the service our pastor will ask and respond to this question: “Is there evidence for the resurrection?” After all, it’s a pretty wild claim — that someone actually came back to life after they died. So is there evidence for it? You might be surprised by the answers he shares — and you’ll most certainly have your beliefs strengthened. Easter is the main event of the Christian faith. So on this first Sunday after Easter we invite you to join in. It will be a morning of hope and worship. You’ll be glad you did.

Sunday Service – April 15

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie

On April 15th at 10:01am we’ll gather together to joyfully sing, pray and marvel at God’s power and goodness. It's an "Inter-generational Service," which means that it's an "all in" experience (no Sunday School), and the service is shortened at 45 minutes in length. There will be lots of singing and some creative forms of worship, including the biblical story in the form of a puppet show. No matter who you are, you'll feel welcome and uplifted. After the service we'll also have a Ministry Fair in our Fellowship Hall. This is an opportunity to learn more about what goes on at Westminster, and also to find out about how to plug in. Let's honour God together! You’ll be glad you did.

Simplify – A teaching series at Westminster

How to SIMPLIFY your life for God’s glory and your sanity. That was a teaching series at Westminster in May 2018 led by Pastor Ruttan. Here's the gist: Life can get complicated. And that’s true no matter how old or young you are. Recently our pastor was talking to a high school student who said they were having trouble keeping their life organized and sane. Then he spoke with a retired person who said they wished they were working again so that they could get a rest! Unfortunately, many peoples' lives have been hijacked by people, priorities and purposes that are of secondary importance. And the straightforward-but-problematic truth is that many of us struggle with layers of complexity that have somehow crept into our existence. So wouldn’t it be great if we could be helped by biblical principles which simplify our lives? The good news is that there is. And that's the point of this 3-part teaching series. Part 1 was based on Proverbs 4:20-27 and was called "Fix Your Gaze." You can listen to the 28-minute podcast here. Part 2 was based on Exodus 20: 8-11 and was called "Tirritated." You can listen to the 32-minute podcast here. Part 3 was based on 1 Timothy 6:6-10 and was called "Less is More." You can listen to the 23-minute podcast here. Also, for the first time, there is a 12-minute video which summarizes all 3 installments. Click on the YouTube link below to watch... https://youtu.be/m92nQyS9GFc

Oops! – A new Sunday teaching series

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie

-Have you ever tried to go somewhere with only half a map? -Have you ever tried to navigate a new neighbourhood with an out-of-date G.P.S. in your car? -Have you ever tried to assemble a BBQ with basic picture prompts but instructions that were in a different language? -Have you ever tried to study for a test with a text book that is 6 editions out of date? Some information can be helpful—but it can also be hurtful if we think it's the whole picture (when it's not). In life this happens all the time. We hear things like "God accepts you just the way you are" or "Nice people go to heaven when they die" or "This is the Christian thing to do" and then make a whole series of assumptions about those statements that leave us with half-truths that actually misinform, and therefore, hurt us. On July 15, 22, and 29 our pastor will lead us through a 3-part series called "Oops! - Half-truths we believe, how they hurt us, and how biblical truth can get us back on track." In it, he'll expose three 3 half-truths, identify how they hurt us, and take us into our Bibles to get us back on track for more faithful, fruitful and fulfilling lives. Oh, and he's asking you to B.Y.O.B. -- bring your own Bibles! We're going to look up some passages together, and give you the opportunity to make some notes. Have you ever tried to do a puzzle with half of the pieces missing? If so, you'll know that a part of the picture isn't the same as the whole picture---and it's also way less fulfilling. So join in. And let's grow together.

My Word – a new Sunday series at Westminster

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie

Before the world of contracts and fine print, do you remember hearing about agreements (even big ones) that were made on the shake of a hand? Remember when someone could be trusted "at their word"? There is something powerful about someone who can be trusted to do what they say they're going to do. Even if you disagree with them, you appreciate the integrity they show when they deliver on a promise. Why is that? First, it's just plain honest. And we like that. But second, it may be because we live in an age of verbal mistrust. 'Talk is cheap,' some people say. Why? Because so many people break promises. Friends, family members, governments... The list seems to go on and on. It's hard to know what to believe when people say one thing but do something else. That's why, when someone keeps their word, it is a powerful and inspiring thing. On November 18 and 25 at Westminster we'll have a new, 2-part teaching series called "My Word - How to be a person of your word in a world of verbal mistrust." Pastor Ruttan will open the Bible and explore what it teaches us about verbal integrity. You'll also learn about the very powerful and positive impact you have in other people's lives when you are someone who can be trusted. https://youtu.be/07D8zstQutg
