New or Newish Evening

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, April 28th from 6:30 to 7:30pm in the Fellowship Hall we are hosting a ‘New or Newish to Westminster Evening.’ It’s an evening of coffee, juice and snacks to help people who feel they are new or “newish” to the congregation to learn more about the church, how it works, and the different ministries and programs. There area lot of new faces around the church. Maybe you’re one of them! Some people feel new after a week or two. But some even feel new after a few years! We held a similar evening in November 2018. Since it was such a success, we are holding another one in spring of 2019. It will be a friendly and informative evening led by Kim Sanderson, our Coordinator of Congregational Life, and Pastor Ruttan. There will be a short presentation and a time for some Q and A’s. Consider yourself invited! If you plan to attend, please let Kim know by emailing her at kim@westminsterpc.ca or call 705-835-2845.  Thanks!

Plant Sale by Stitch & Chatter

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Stitch and Chatter will host a plant sale after church on Sunday May 28 following the regular service. They are looking for plant donations to sell in support of mission projects. If you are starting some seeds for yourself, perhaps you could grow some extra plants for Westminster. As you are thinning out your perennial beds this spring, perhaps you could pot some to share.  If you have any to donate, please bring them into the church either on Saturday May 27 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. or on the day of the sale, May 28th, from 9:30 - 9:50 a.m. Your generosity is a blessing, thank you! We invite you to stick around after service and shop the plants that have been generously donated by our members. The sale will begin after our regular church service and run until we sell out or members are done shopping. The generosity of those who have given their time and donated for this sale are so much appreciated and all sales will go to mission projects.

Sunday Service – July 9, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, July 9th we will have a 40-minute inter-generational service. We will give thanks for Vacation Bible Camp, show a video review of the week, re-share some fun content from the camp, and do some singing! This is an ‘all together’ service so there will be no Sunday School. (But there will be nursery care.) Let’s celebrate God in an uplifting and joyful way together. This is a great service to invite a friend or family member who is unsure about church. It will be casual and joyful. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube.

Sunday Service – Sept.3, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday Pastor Ruttan returns to lead worship after his summer vacation. On September 10th he will begin a new series on 1st and 2nd Thessalonians. But before that begins he will teach on one of the shortest (and most beautiful) Psalms–131. There we are encouraged to calm and quiet our souls. In a world of noise, how do we do it? Even when we’re in a quiet setting, our minds can continue to buzz with activity. Psalm 131 helps us forward as we plan for autumn. There will be Sunday School, nursery care, coffee time and fellowship. The service is at 10:01am and will be in-person and live on YouTube.

Mon. Afternoon Prayer Group (at Westminster)

Our Prayer Group takes place at the church every Monday afternoon at 1 pm. We meet in the sanctuary and pray for those in need both inside and outside of the congregation. This is an open group and all are welcome. Please note that unlike some of the other groups, we continue to meet and pray on most  Mondays throughout the summer months and other holiday Mondays throughout the year. For enquiries please contact the church office at 728-0541. ***Please note that these online events auto-populate weekly and cancellations or changes may not be reflected here.

Sunday Service – Oct. 8, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Sunday, October 8th is Thanksgiving Sunday! The Communion table will have the fruit of the season, and we will gather to sing, pray and learn as Jesus’ people. We will also hold a drive for the Barrie Food Bank. If able, please contribute! Pastor Ruttan will return to the current teaching series, “The beginning is nigh.” The text will be 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12, and the focus will be on what we're for, not just what we're against as Jesus' people. There will be dedicated teachers to provide Sunday School and faithful helpers in the nursery. We will have treats, drinks and fellowship after the service.

Get into the holiday spirit while you browse our vendors, eat a delicious lunch, sip on a hot chocolate and even participate in our silent auction! Sunday Service – Mar.10, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, March 10th we will hear the final installment of our series on the book of Esther. Pastor Ruttan will take us through chapters 9-10, share some thoughts about armed conflict and how this does (or doesn’t) relate to stories like Esther, and encourage us to identify the big picture providence of God working in the lives of his people. We will be blessed by song, we will pray together, there will be Sunday School and nursery care, and we will share fellowship and, of course, some snacks. Let’s continue to journey through Lent together at worship.

Sunday Service – March 24, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, March 24th, Pastor Ruttan is away on vacation and our Coordinator of Youth and Outreach, William Min, will be leading the service. This is Palm Sunday. You will receive a Palm as you enter for the service. We will look at the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, some of the cultural context around its timing, and how Jesus seldom works according to our expectations and desires, but counterintuitively does God’s incredibly work through His faithfulness. We will be blessed by song, through our music ministry, led by our Music Director, Nena LaMarre, and we will pray together. There will also be Sunday School and nursery care, led by caring and dedicated members of our congregation. There will be a free Soup and Bun lunch following the service in our fellowship hall. We encourage everyone to join in. We are blessed with kitchen volunteers who regularly give their hearts to the mission of organizing, shopping, cooking, baking and preparing treats, refreshments and meals for our congregation to share in. Let’s worship together on this Palm Sunday, as we prepare our hearts for our coming Easter Services.
