Sunday Service – Nov.12, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On November 12th we gather at 10:01am to worship our God of majesty, love, hope and holiness. Pastor Ruttan will lead our service, but has asked Jeff Walther to share the sermon (since Pastor Ruttan was away most of the week). The theme is "whatever." When we hear that word we can think of a dismissive 'who cares' attitude. But Paul uses it in several times in Philippians 4 to direct our attention to good and godly things. We should think about "whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely..." It is a message meant to encourage us to fill our minds with good things, which is especially important when there is so much negativity around us. We will sing praises to God, pray together, and build each other up. We will have Sunday School and nursery care, provided by caring brothers and sisters in Christ. After the service, Pastor Ruttan will be available to pray with you at the front of the sanctuary if you would like.

Sunday Service – Nov.19. 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On November 19th we gather to worship the Lord of grace! Pastor Ruttan will continue with our series called “The beginning is nigh” and start our look at 2nd Thessalonians. Paul discusses the seriousness of being shut out from God’s presence. This is also a teaching moment about how, in this life, we are encased in grace when we are IN his presence. We will sing songs of praise, pray together, be blessed by Sunday School ministry and nursery care, and enjoy fellowship as God’s people. The service begins at 10:01am.

Sunday Service – Nov. 26th – We Welcome William Min! – Our new Coordinator of Youth and Outreach

After the service we will have our much-enjoyed Soup and a Bun Lunch… as well as some cake! There will be Sunday School provided by gracious, helpful teachers, and loving nursery care. Let’s honour the Lord together. The service begins at 10:01am.

Sunday Service – Dec.3, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Advent begins! This is the four-week period leading up to Christmas. Advent means “coming,” and refers to the coming of Christ—not only at Christmas, but for his return. It is a season of anticipation and preparation. We will light the candle of hope, be blessed by special music, and celebrate the Sacrament of Communion. (See separate announcement for our procedure.) The teaching will be the second last instalment of the ‘Beginning is Nigh’ series. 2nd Thessalonians 2 is a dramatic chapter: Paul discusses ‘the rebellion,’ the ‘man of lawlessness,’ and standing firm as we await Jesus’ return. It is a text which is perfectly on-point for Advent. There will be Sunday School provided by thoughtful, helpful teachers, and loving nursery care. Let’s honour the Lord together. The service begins at 10:01am.

Celebration of Life for Jack Hunt

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Jack Hunt (the father of Kathy Hunt) passed away at RVH on November 16th. We will have a memorial service for Jack on Saturday, December 9th at 2pm at Westminster. Please pray for Kathy, her sister Laura, and their families as they navigate this difficult time. Although we are sad because of Jack's death, we rejoice that he is now with the Lord. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 Corinthians 15:57) If you are unable to attend in person, you can watch the live stream by clicking here.

Advent continues on Sunday! This is the four-week period leading up to Christmas. We will light the candle of peace, sing and worship together, pray, and bring to a close the Beginning is Nigh series with focus on the powerful and comforting idea that the word of the Lord “goes ahead” of us as we navigate life. The Bethlehem Photo Booth remains open! (See separate announcement.) Be sure to stop by after the service. There will be Sunday School provided by gracious teachers, and loving nursery care. Let’s honour the Lord together. The service begins at 10:01am.

Funeral Service for Winnie Eakin

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Winnie Eakin, long-time member and friend at Westminster. Winnie recently suffered from a number of health issues. She was in her 100th year and passed away early in the morning of the 6th at Barrie Manor. A strong woman of faith with a charming sense of humour, Winnie's smile was infectious. She was a mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had been actively involved in many groups and projects at the church through the years, along with her husband Hugh (who passed away in 2004). We will hold a funeral service at the church this Sunday, December 10th at 3pm. (Visitation from 2-3pm.) A reception will follow. Winnie's full obituary is here. Through the sadness we rejoice that Winnie is no longer in pain and is in joyful peace in the very presence of God. "Thanks be to God who gives us the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ!" (1 Cor 5:57)

Christmas Eve – Two Services

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Our Christmas Eve Services: Christmas Eve is a special night! At Westminster, we will have two evening services. (If you're looking for information for the Sunday morning service at 10:01am on the 24th click here.) Here is what to expect in the evening (and you can also see a video description below): 1. SUPER FAMILY-FRIENDLY SERVICE - 5:30-6:05 P.M. Our first service is our super family-friendly service. It's only 35 minutes long! We recognize that many young ones are excited for Christmas and need to get to bed at a decent time. So this is a not-so-silent night. We'll sing, learn about the nativity story, and even sing Silent Night in the dark; but instead of real candles we'll hand out battery-operated tea-lights! The words to songs (and also some videos) are projected on a screen. If you're in a position to do so, you may give a donation. 100% of the donations will be given to Youth Haven and the important work they do to support at-risk youth in our community. The service is in-person, and also live-streamed here. 2. TRADITIONAL CANDLELIT SERVICE - 7-8 P.M. Our second service is our traditional candlelit service. We will sing carols, reflect on the nativity story, and be blessed with O Holy Night as the lights go down and we sing some of the quiet carols of Christmas by candlelight. (You'll be given a candle as you come in the door.) If you're in a position to do so, you may give a donation. 100% of the donations will be given to Teen Challenge, a Canadian organization helping individuals struggling through addictions. The service is in-person, and also live-streamed here. "But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all...
