Memorial Service for Isabel Fleming

On Saturday, May 7th at 1:30pm there will be a memorial service for Isabel Fleming at Westminster Presbyterian Church (170 Steel Street, Barrie, ON). Isabel was an active, joyful and faithful member of the congregation for over 20 years. She was a meaningful and committed member of many groups and outreaches, and graced our weekly worship services as a part of the choir. We miss her greatly, but rejoice that she is now with God and is free from all pain and illness. She rejoices in the powerful and peaceful presence of God! Isabel passed away on June 1, 2021. However, since that was during a lockdown period as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, a decision was made to hold a memorial service at a later date. The service will be both in-person and live-streamed. For those watching online, they can go to Westminster's YouTube channel here when the service starts to follow along. For those attending in-person, there is no need to pre-register. All attendance limits have been lifted, but we continue to ask that guests wear masks as an added safety precaution. The service will include some of Isabel's favourite hymns, prayers, and words of gratitude from the family and from Rev. Ruttan. There will be no formal reception after the service. On Sunday, May 8th we worship our incredible God at 10:01am (in person and online). Pastor Ruttan returns to the pulpit and leads us through John 5:1-18 and what it means to get in on the work God is already doing in our world. There will be Sunday School, music and praise, prayers, a new faith at home focus, and carnations for all the ladies. Why? Why does it feel so right to worship God? Because we were made for it! We gather at 10:01am (in person or online), to praise God, sing and pray together, benefit from Sunday School teaching, learn a new faith-at-home focus, and continue through John's Gospel. Pastor Ruttan will begin by explaining why we can have confidence that what the Bible says Jesus said he actually said, and the move on to a teaching which frees us from feeling like we need to meet the standards of other people. Do you ever feel like your faith is never enough, or that what you have to offer always falls short? You should think again. On Sunday Pastor Ruttan will take us through John 6:1-15. We'll welcome back Jennifer Harris and sing, pray together, and learn in God's word. There will be Sunday school and a new service-based faith-at-home activity. Sunday, June 5th is our Anniversary Service. Westminster is 60! We will praise God and give thanks for his faithfulness, sing, pray, learn more about Westminster, celebrate Communion, study John 6:16-24 and what it means to have courage, and re-introduce Fellowship Time after the service. (It will be outside if the weather is nice.) We will be blessed by Sunday School ministry and learn a new memory verse for trying times. God is good! Pastor Ruttan and one of our elders will also be available after the service if anyone wants to be anointed with oil and receive prayer. Pre-registration is no longer needed but masks are still worn. Yes, Jesus is the "bread of life." But why does he say that we need to eat his flesh and drink his blood (John 6:56)? Yikes! If his statement is not about Communion (and it's not), what does he mean? These ideas caused many disciples to abandon him. On Sunday we'll explore John 6:25-71 and how Jesus nourishes us in meaningful, eternal ways. We will sing to God, pray together, be blessed with Sunday School ministries, and also Fellowship Time after the service! In addition, Pastor Ruttan will hold a short "Q and A Forum" after the service. Three questions have been submitted about temptation, about assisted suicide, and about the difference between biblical and secular "worldviews." Celebration of Life for June Blundell

Our sister in Christ June Blundell passed away after a series of health challenges on June 2, 2022 at Royal Victoria Hospital. We give thanks for her enduring faithfulness and kind spirit! You can read June's full obituary here. A memorial service will be held at the church on Saturday, June 25 at 1pm. For those unable to attend in person, there will be a live-stream available via YouTube at this link. Pastor Ruttan will welcome June’s family friend and former pastor Bruce Sticklee to lead the service, as well as several family members. There will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Masks are still required indoors at Westminster as an added safety precaution.

Worship Sunday June 26, 2022

On Sunday, June 26th our annual Canada Day service (which is held the Sunday prior to July 1) will occur in the front parking lot -- bring your own lawn chairs! (Extras provided if you don't have one.) It will be an informal, 40-minute family-friendly service (so there is no Sunday School since we'll all be together.) We will sing, pray, hand out Canada flags and also Sunday School certificates. It will be an uplifting morning of thanksgiving. (If it is raining we'll move indoors.) Please also remember that (a) on Sunday masks become optional indoors at Westminster; and (b) there is no live-stream since the service it outside. Park in the back lot or on the street. Let's honour God together!
