This Sunday is Ascension Sunday. Huh? We talk about Christmas and Easter, but not the Ascension. On Sunday that changes. We celebrate the risen Jesus assuming his place as Lord and King of the universe at the right hand of our heavenly Father (and talk about what that means and why it matters, especially at a time like this). May 23 is Pentecost Sunday. Often considered the birthday of the global church, our text is Acts 2 as we learn about and reflect on the Holy Spirit being dramatically poured out on the disciples after Jesus' physical departure. Who is the Spirit in our lives? How do those ancient days connect with these days? We will sing God's praise, pray together, hear a new service-based faith-at-home focus, see what's next with the New City Catechism, and lift high the name of King Jesus! God's people praise their God! So that's what we'll do on Sunday, May 30th at 10:01am on YouTube. We'll sing, learn a new faith-at-home focus, sing a new favourite hymn selection, lift concerns to God in prayer, and dive into a short-but-enigmatic passage in Acts 2:42-47 to learn how God sustains his people for the journey, even when we find it hard to sustain ourselves. June 6 is Anniversary Sunday! We will praise God at 10:01am (on YouTube), celebrate Communion together virtually (have your bread and juice ready), and give thanks for 59 years of ministry (oh, and prepare for some fun trivia). There will be prayers, some special music, and another powerful text from Acts 4 and the early life of the disciples. We will also receive a special financial offering for the Deacon's Fund (a fund which helps people struggling financially either inside or outside the congregation), learn a new memorization verse, and have the Q & A Forum after the service. It will be a meaningful morning to honour the Lord! Join us online (only) right here Sunday morning.

This Sunday, June 13th we praise the Lord (online) at 10:01am! Pastor Ruttan will also provide an updated re-opening plan from our elders in light of the Ontario's government's recently announcements. We will sing praise songs and hymns to God, lift up many prayer concerns, and learn a new faith-at-home focus. Our message will actually be in the form of several video testimonies from participants in our small groups! We will also have our Q and A forum after the service.  As a part of that Pastor Ruttan and elder Cathy Clark will provide an update about the recent General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. On Sunday, June 20th, 2021 we worship the living God! As announced last week, we will worship via our YouTube live stream, AND there will be a limited re-opening. For the full announcement click here. In Stage 1 of the Ontario government's plan, we are able to accommodate 15% of our capacity but ensuring physical distancing measures. The priority group is those without internet and those who live alone. (Pre-registration is required.) Should you (or someone you know) fall into one of these categories and have not been called by Wednesday, contact the office at 705-728-0541. This Sunday (June 27) is our annual Canada Day service (always held the first Sunday before July 1). We will continue with our limited re-opening (with priority given to those who don't have internet or who live alone; pre-registration required), and with our live-stream on YouTube. Pastor Ruttan will be joined by Laura Ruttan who will present this year's Sunday School certificates (virtually), and Julie Cunha who will lead and acknowledge our many grade 8 and high school graduates! We will sing several songs and hymns and pray together. It is a slightly shorter service with no full sermon, but we will include Psalm 85 and a vision for a Canada which seeks to be truly good. This Sunday we honour God with worship at 10:01am. Pastor Ruttan will focus on the powerful story of the martyrdom of Stephen in Acts 7, and how God never wastes faithfulness -- then or now, even if we can't always see the results. Pastor Ruttan will focus on Acts 14:8-20 and how nature and God's creation reveals God's goodness toward us, and can also be a starting point when speaking to others about the goodness of God in all of our lives. On Sunday, July 18th we worship God as his children. We continue with our YouTube live-stream, and also with the limited in-person gathering (by pre-registration).   Pastor Ruttan will take a break from Acts to focus us on avoiding the post-pandemic crash. How can we re-emerge from a pandemic in a way that is faithful and healthy, especially in a season which will be more uncertain than people anticipate, and when many people are, well... not doing very well. Among other things, we need to be deliberate about our spiritual practices.
