Sunday Service – May 7, 2023

It’s the most famous of the most famous psalms. People request it at funerals and underline it in their Bibles. They memorize it and plaque it for their walls. Many non-Christians can even recite the first few lines. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” On Sunday Pastor Ruttan will take us into this eternally comforting passage and explore what it might say to us today. If you missed it last week, click here for a short video introduction to this series on the Psalms. During the service we will honour God through biblical teaching, prayer, music, Sunday School, nursery care, and fellowship with one another. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube.

Sunday Service – May 14, 2023

On Sunday, May 14, 2023 we praise the living God and King of the universe! It is Mother’s Day. All of the ladies will receive a carnation when they come into the church. We will be blessed by a special musical piece by many of our young people, and in our prayers will will thank God for mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures, past and present. Pastor Ruttan will continue the series on the most famous Psalms. We come to Psalm 46. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear… Be still, and know that I am God” (verses 1-2, 10). It is mostly used during times of global, national or personal crises. It was also the inspiration for the hymn “A mighty fortress is our God.” Just like Psalm 23, it continues to provide words of eternal comfort and wisdom for whatever trials we face today. If you missed it previously, click here for a short video introduction to the Psalms in general. There will be Sunday School, nursery care, and fellowship with one another. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube.

Sunday Service – May 21, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, May 21, 2023 we gather as God’s people have done for countless generations to praise him and encourage one another. Pastor Ruttan will continue the series on the most famous Psalms. We come to Psalm 51 – one of the most personal and intense. David has been confronted with his horrific sins. He humbly turns to God to seek forgiveness. It is a profound teaching about genuine repentance. “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Isn’t that a wonderful request for all of us! If you missed it previously, click here for a short video introduction to the Psalms in general. There will be Sunday School, nursery care, and fellowship with one another. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube.

Sunday Service – May 28, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On May 28, 2023 we gather on Pentecost Sunday, what is often called the birthday of the church. It was when the Holy Spirit was dramatically poured out on the disciples in Jerusalem after Jesus had physically left them. Pastor Ruttan will continue the series on the most famous Psalms. We come to Psalm 88. It is a desperate cry for help. What do you do when you feel like God has let you down? Have you ever wondered as you have dealt with your own hardship or disappointment? There will be Sunday School, nursery care, and fellowship with one another. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube.

Plant Sale by Stitch & Chatter

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Stitch and Chatter will host a plant sale after church on Sunday May 28 following the regular service. They are looking for plant donations to sell in support of mission projects. If you are starting some seeds for yourself, perhaps you could grow some extra plants for Westminster. As you are thinning out your perennial beds this spring, perhaps you could pot some to share.  If you have any to donate, please bring them into the church either on Saturday May 27 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. or on the day of the sale, May 28th, from 9:30 - 9:50 a.m. Your generosity is a blessing, thank you! We invite you to stick around after service and shop the plants that have been generously donated by our members. The sale will begin after our regular church service and run until we sell out or members are done shopping. The generosity of those who have given their time and donated for this sale are so much appreciated and all sales will go to mission projects.

Sunday Service – June 11, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On June 11th we gather together on Anniversary Sunday to give thanks to God, sing, pray, learn and worship as the body of Christ. We will celebrate the sacrament of Communion near the start of the service (see separate announcement for the participation of children) and give thanks for 61 years at Westminster (who wants cake?). Pastor Ruttan returns from Nova Scotia and will continue with the teaching series on the most famous psalms. We arrive at Psalm 91–so beloved by many of God’s people that it is memorized, held close in times of fear or battle, and even worn in lockets. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” We will welcome a financial offering for our Deacon’s Fund, a fund which helps those who are struggling financially both inside and outside the congregation. There will be Sunday School led by committed and caring volunteers, loving nursery care, and fellowship with one another. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube.

Sunday Service – June 18, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Psalm 90: 12 says: “Teach us to number our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom.” In other words, when we know that our time on earth is short, and that we need to use it as best as we can, this should motivate us to live with wisdom. Do you want to both make a mark and live wisely? This is what Pastor Ruttan will explore on Sunday as a part of our current teaching series on the most famous psalms. It is also Father’s Day. We will enjoy a special musical piece by some of our younger members. There will be Sunday School led by committed and caring volunteers, loving nursery care, and fellowship with one another. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube. After the service, Pastor Ruttan will provide a short update on the “Forward with the Living Christ Plan.” He will explain the updates and, on behalf of the elders, entertain any questions.

Sunday Service – June 25, 2023

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On June 25th we come together to honour God with worship! Pastor Ruttan continues the teaching series on the most famous psalms. We arrive at Psalm 103: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!” “Bless” is one of those words we use a lot. But what does it mean to “bless” God? And how does doing this on a daily basis help sculpt our perspective? We will begin the service with O Canada since this is the last Sunday before Canada Day. We will also pray for the well-being of our country. There will be Sunday School led by caring volunteers, attentive nursery care, and fellowship with one another. The service begins at 10:01am both in person and online via YouTube. After the service, Pastor Ruttan will host the quarterly Q and A Forum. He will respond to previously submitted questions about why we have to live through life on earth before heaven, and various theories about the end times.
