Jesus said that “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you” (John 6:53). Yikes! That caused many disciples to turn back from following him.

But he was speaking metaphorically about the fact that he is the “bread of life” (verse 35). If we truly believe in him, we will feast on his love, truth and very presence; we will be nourished and sustained by him. This satisfies the deepest longings of our souls.

Yes, your soul has an appetite; but if you fill it with the wrong thing it will be eternally corroded. Fill it with the right thing, however, and it will be eternally contented.

In this sermon on John 6:25-71, Pastor Ruttan takes us through the text, explains Jesus’ controversial and confusing words that he is the bread of life, and also highlights four wrong ways to satisfy our deepest spiritual appetites.

The sermon is called “Your soul has an appetite.”
