Westminster Loving God & Neighbour

The word “worship” was sometimes used to include the idea of prostrating oneself on the ground in an act of homage. Although we don’t lie on the ground when we worship as a community, that idea still says something about our inner posture: we come faithfully, reverently and overflowing with gratitude to the God who creates, saves and guides us.

It is Mother’s Day—and so all women will receive a carnation when they enter; we will give thanks to mothers.

Pastor Ruttan will teach through Colossians 2:6-23. These are full verses which give us an indication about how the Colossians were going off track. But Paul stresses being “alive in Christ” as opposed to self-made religion. What is that, why is it stifling, and what does it teach us about true spiritual health?

There will be helpful Sunday School classes, loving nursery care, as well as fellowship and encouragement. We will sing, pray, serve and be lifted up.

Sunday School

At Westminster on Sunday Morning there is Kids and Youth Ministry (Sunday School) for those aged pre-school to the end of high school.

Worship and Time with the Pastor

The Children and Youth stay in the sanctuary to worship at the start of the service and then have a time with the Pastor (called Kids’ Time) about 15 minutes into the start of the service. Then they head into two different groups.

What Happens Then?

There is an older group and a younger group. The younger groups begins at age 4. If you’re new, the teachers will tell you which class to be a part of.

Classes

This involves a time of learning a biblical story, an age-appropriate discussion and an activity to reinforce the meaning. The classes are over when the service is over. At that time, youth re-connect with their parent(s) or caregivers.

All children and youth are welcome and encouraged to join us downstairs for some faith, fun and friendship! At the same time, if they are old enough and would like to engage with the worship service, they may stay there as well.

Westminster is dedicated to providing a loving and safe environment for all of the children in our congregation. To help us in this regard we are in the process of implementing the Presbyterian Church’s nation-wide Leading With Care policy.

Nursery

We have a nursery available for kids up to 3 years old (roughly) and you can feel free to drop them off before the service begins. Just ask the greeter at the door where to go.

Our nursery helpers are there at 9:45am and are a friendly and loving group. It’s a bright, inviting space located down the stairs at the back of the sanctuary.
