Sunday Service – January 14, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday we will praise God! It’s what we were made to do. We will sing and pray, learn from scripture, and support one another as the body of Christ. There will be Sunday school, nursery care, and fellowship time. As a part of the service we will hear some faith statements by people who are becoming professing members of the congregation. Pastor Ruttan will also give some teaching about ‘spiritual gifts 101.’ Every Christian has at least one “spiritual gift” that God has given them to use for his purposes in the world. What are they and how do you know? Come Holy Spirit! Let’s honour the Lord together. The service is at 10:01am.

Sunday Service – Feb.11, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday we gather in-person for 10:01am to worship and praise the Triune God. We begin a new teaching series on the book of Esther, the young Jewish woman who ascended to the throne in times that were dangerous, politically and personally. Did you realize that it's the only book of the Bible in which God is not specifically named? There's no mention of miracles or Jerusalem. And yes, it is filled with moral ambiguities. A major theme will be discerning the hand of God when it's hard to see. We will worship, pray, and praise. Thoughtful and loving volunteers will lead Sunday School, provide nursery care, and facilitate fellowship time after the service. Come, Lord! Let’s honour the Lord together. The service is at 10:01am.

Sunday Service – Mar.10, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, March 10th we will hear the final installment of our series on the book of Esther. Pastor Ruttan will take us through chapters 9-10, share some thoughts about armed conflict and how this does (or doesn’t) relate to stories like Esther, and encourage us to identify the big picture providence of God working in the lives of his people. We will be blessed by song, we will pray together, there will be Sunday School and nursery care, and we will share fellowship and, of course, some snacks. Let’s continue to journey through Lent together at worship.

Sunday Service – Mar.17, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, March 17th, Pastor Ruttan is away on vacation and our Coordinator of Youth and Outreach, William Min, will be leading the service. William will be looking at the story of how Jesus resurrects Lazarus from the dead and how it is one of 4 Messianic miracles. He will focus on how we will soon be wrapping up Lent as we look towards Easter in a couple of weeks… and the resurrection hope we have in Jesus, which leads us to repentance, because He IS the resurrection, the truth, and the life. We will be blessed by song, we will pray together, there will be Sunday School and nursery care, and we will share fellowship and, of course, some snacks. Let’s continue to journey through Lent together at worship.

Sunday Service – March 24, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, March 24th, Pastor Ruttan is away on vacation and our Coordinator of Youth and Outreach, William Min, will be leading the service. This is Palm Sunday. You will receive a Palm as you enter for the service. We will look at the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, some of the cultural context around its timing, and how Jesus seldom works according to our expectations and desires, but counterintuitively does God’s incredibly work through His faithfulness. We will be blessed by song, through our music ministry, led by our Music Director, Nena LaMarre, and we will pray together. There will also be Sunday School and nursery care, led by caring and dedicated members of our congregation. There will be a free Soup and Bun lunch following the service in our fellowship hall. We encourage everyone to join in. We are blessed with kitchen volunteers who regularly give their hearts to the mission of organizing, shopping, cooking, baking and preparing treats, refreshments and meals for our congregation to share in. Let’s worship together on this Palm Sunday, as we prepare our hearts for our coming Easter Services.

Good Friday Service – 10:00 a.m.

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

MARCH 29 at 10am: Good Friday We gather at the foot of the cross to remember the sacrifice and crucifixion of Christ. This is a reflective service of gratitude. “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). At the end of the service, after the special Kid’s Program (see below), we file out in silence. The Good Friday Youth Program will be for children aged 4 to 12+ years at the same time as the service. This is an experiential hour for the children and includes the story of Jesus from Maundy Thursday to Easter morning. We will meet in the church hall at 10 am (promptly). At the end of the hour the youth will walk up the back aisle in the sanctuary carrying the cross and tomb to the front; then we will file out in silence. (Questions about this youth program can be directed to Mandy Hillyard at 705-539-1203 or at barriegirl57@gmail.com)

Sunday Service – April 28, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

On Sunday, April 28th we gather to honour the Lord on the first day of the week, as Christ’s people have done for thousands of years. It’s Soup and a Bun Sunday! Join us after the service for a delicious Soup and Bun lunch. Donations accepted. Pastor Ruttan will continue our teachings series on Colossians. Do you ever feel insecure in your faith? As if something is missing? These questions can happen to mature Christians as well as new Christians. That’s what we’ll explore as we look at Colossians 1:15-23. Isn’t it wonderful that there are Sunday School teachers preparing to help and guide our children? And that there are people in the nursery to provide care? And that there are singers, musicians, ushers, tech assistants, kitchen volunteers, set-up and take-downers, greeters, and behind-the-scenes pray-ers and servants who serve our God through this church? Yes, yes it is. See you Sunday. “Set your minds on things that are above… For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:2-3)

Sunday Service – May 5, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

“How Great Thou Art!” It’s a powerful and inspiring hymn for the ages. It speaks a great truth and God and is also a great way to start a worship service – and so we will this Sunday. There will be helpful Sunday School classes, loving nursery care, as well as fellowship and encouragement. We will sing, pray, serve and be lifted up. Pastor Ruttan will focus on one of the most uplifting (and still mysterious) verses in Colossians: that “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” The wider text will be Colossians 1:24 - 2:5.

Sunday Service – May 12, 2024

Westminster 170 Steel Street, Barrie, Ontario, Canada

The word “worship” was sometimes used to include the idea of prostrating oneself on the ground in an act of homage. Although we don’t lie on the ground when we worship as a community, that idea still says something about our inner posture: we come faithfully, reverently and overflowing with gratitude to the God who creates, saves and guides us. It is Mother’s Day—and so all women will receive a carnation when they enter; we will give thanks to mothers. Pastor Ruttan will teach through Colossians 2:6-23. These are full verses which give us an indication about how the Colossians were going off track. But Paul stresses being “alive in Christ” as opposed to self-made religion. What is that, why is it stifling, and what does it teach us about true spiritual health? There will be helpful Sunday School classes, loving nursery care, as well as fellowship and encouragement. We will sing, pray, serve and be lifted up.
