What Jesus prays for you is God’s will for you – John 17 Summary

For his disciples then and now, Jesus prays:
1. For you to have eternal life
-“this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom you have sent” (v. 3)
2. For being kept/guarded in God
-“Holy Father, keep them in your name” (v.11)
3. For his joy to be within us
-“that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves” (v. 13)
4. For protection from the evil one
-“keep them from the evil one” (v.15)
5. For holiness in God’s truth
-“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (v.17), 19
6. For unity among believers
-“that they may be one, even as we are one” (v.11, 22)
-“that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe
that you have sent me” (v.21)
-“that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me (v.23)
7. For being at his side and seeing his glory
-“I desire that they… may be with me where I am,
to see my glory that you have given me” (v.24), 26
8. For God’s love within us (and through us)
-“that the love with which you have loved me may be in them” (v26)
