Westminster’s new app!
by Westminster
Westminster’s smart phone app is here! Here is what you need to know.
[Scroll down to the end for a more complete explanation video by Pastor Ruttan.]What is an app?
An app is a tool on your smart phone. All those little squares are different apps. “App” is short form for “application”—as in software application on an electronic device.
What’s the difference between an app and a website?
There’re similar, but different. Think of a website as your platform to the world. It also has more things on it and a more comprehensive program listing.
Even though anyone can download it, an app is more like a platform for your weekly church family and is designed more specifically for use on a smart phone. It highlights content that is more likely to get accessed on a weekly basis. It’s by a company named “Tithe.ly.”
Since it’s by Tithe.ly, is it primarily about giving?
No. Originally they started as an online giving platform, but they’ve since expanded as a full-service app development company and kept their original name. About 80% of their clients are churches.
What does the app include?
Lots of things. You can access videos, livestreams, announcements, a prayer wall, pictures, and a super-easy giving button. You can also access youth group or vine group updates. There is a Bible, daily devotional, and place to fill in sermon notes too.
Is there information for all programs?
No. It doesn’t have the full functionality of a website, but it does include updated announcements for a variety of events or programs. After COVID-19, and as regular programs start to resume, it will include updates for initiatives or groups such as the Adult Social Club or Stitch and Chatter etc. in the Announcements section as updates become available.
How does it work?
When you click on the special link below, it automatically knows what kind of device you’re using, and downloads the app to your phone. This is the only way to get the app. No searching required in the various app stores.
When you click on the link below, you will be asked to download an app called “Tithe.ly.” That’s it! They’re the company who makes and manages our app. When you click ‘open,’ it will also ask you which ‘push notifications’ you want to receive.
What are push notifications?
These are short, timely updates (notifications) on your phone about new resources, live worship services, outreach initiatives, small groups or youth initiatives. When you open the app for the first time you’ll be asked about which ones you want to receive. If you want to change what notifications you receive (or don’t receive) you can do that in your “settings” inside the app.
Does it cost me anything?
No. It’s free!
How do I get it?
Here’s the link! The only place you can get the app is here: https://tithely.app.link/westminster-pc
The Westminster app is supported and paid for in part by bequests to The Presbyterian Church in Canada.
