Sunday Service – May 5, 2024

“How Great Thou Art!” It’s a powerful and inspiring hymn for the ages. It speaks a great truth and God and is also a great way to start a worship service – and so we will this Sunday. There will be helpful Sunday School classes, loving nursery care, as well as fellowship and encouragement. We will sing, pray, serve and be lifted up. Pastor Ruttan will focus on one of the most uplifting (and still mysterious) verses in Colossians: that “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” The wider text will be Colossians 1:24 - 2:5.

The word “worship” was sometimes used to include the idea of prostrating oneself on the ground in an act of homage. Although we don’t lie on the ground when we worship as a community, that idea still says something about our inner posture: we come faithfully, reverently and overflowing with gratitude to the God who creates, saves and guides us. It is Mother’s Day—and so all women will receive a carnation when they enter; we will give thanks to mothers. Pastor Ruttan will teach through Colossians 2:6-23. These are full verses which give us an indication about how the Colossians were going off track. But Paul stresses being “alive in Christ” as opposed to self-made religion. What is that, why is it stifling, and what does it teach us about true spiritual health? There will be helpful Sunday School classes, loving nursery care, as well as fellowship and encouragement. We will sing, pray, serve and be lifted up.

Sunday Service – May 19, 2024

On May 19th we gather for Pentecost Sunday, the day when we remember when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and formally gave birth to the church. We will sing, pray, learn, and encourage one another. We will also induct three elders into office (Jim Bewick, Mary Colvin, Guy Gagnon). (See separate announcement.) The body of Christ will lead Sunday school, provide nursery care, and facilitate fellowship, music and prayer. We are a blessed congregation. Pastor Ruttan will teach through Colossians 3:1-17, the most celebrated section of this letter. What does it mean for the “peace of Christ” to rule in our hearts in a way which is life-giving?

Plant Sale by Stitch and Chatter – May 25

Our church is holding it's annual plant sale on the morning of Sat. May 25. The sale begins at 10 AM and runs until 2/2:30 depending on how quickly we sell out. All plants are donated by our generous members. Join us to pick up some flowers, veggies or greens for your garden while supporting our mission projects. On May 26th we will sing, pray, learn, and encourage one another in Christ. While Pastor Ruttan  is away, our Coordinator of Youth and Outreach, William Min will lead our service, drawing from the story of the bronze snake in Numbers (21:4-9) and John 3:7-15 with the key verses being v14-15 "And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” The body of Christ will lead Sunday school, provide nursery care, and facilitate fellowship, music and prayer. We are a blessed congregation. After the service, everyone is invited into the fellowship hall for a Turkey and Bun lunch. The lunch is free, though donations are accepted and appreciated if you are able.

June 2nd is Anniversary Sunday! We will celebrate The Lord’s Supper (Communion), give thanks for Westminster’s 62 years of ministry, and have some cake! Pastor Ruttan will depart from the Colossians series to share a message about being the hands and feet of Christ today Luke 8:4-15. We will benefit from Sunday School ministry, nursery care, and encourage one another with prayer, music and conversation.
