Some people become worried or anxious about whether or not they’re a genuine follower of Jesus. ‘Am I truly sincere? Are God’s promises really for me? Am I saved? Am I just a hypocrite? Will I one day get to the gates of heaven and be un-pleasantly surprised?’
This is an area of theology called ‘assurance.’ This sermon will hopefully provide clarity, encouragement and comfort to those who wonder.
We look at Ephesians 1:1-6 and 2:1-10, we build on William Perkins’ three grounds for assurance, and consider the love of a Father who adopts us as children. As Max Lucado says, there may be surprise pregnancies, but not surprise adoptions.
